Mickie D gilt als Crossover-Künstler der Westberliner Elektronik- und
Krautrock-Szene der 1970er Jahre: verbunden mit einflussreichen Persönlichkeiten dieser Szene, aber gleichzeitig mit einem klar erkennbaren eigenen Stil. Sein erstes Solo-Projekt, „Mickie D's Unicorn“ (1979), wird als Hybrid aus Rock, elektronischer Musik und narrativer Fantasie beschrieben, als „eine echte Synthese zwischen elektronischer Musik und Rock“ (musikexpress), „eine eigentümliche Mischung aus Synthesizer-Klängen der Berliner Schule, Space-Gitarren und oft polyphonen Vocals, ein Meilenstein in der Fusion von Pop und elektronischer Musik zu dieser Zeit“ (Bernd Kistenmacher, „Ferne Ziele“).

Er steht der Dramaturgie der Berliner Schule nahe, beschränkt sich aber nicht auf deren oft instrumentales Raster. Vor diesem Hintergrund wirkt „Aladdin – It's Fantasy“, erstmals 1993 veröffentlicht und nun als Reissue wieder erhältlich, wie eine verspätete Fortsetzung derselben Idee: Elektronik als Basis, Gitarren als Farbe und die oft polyphonen Gesänge mit Fantasy-Themen als „Sahnehäubchen“.

He is close to the Berlin School dramaturgy, but is not limited to its often instrumental grid. Against this backdrop, “Aladdin — It's Fantasy,” first released in 1993 and now available again as a re-release, seems like a belated continuation of the same idea: electronics as the basis, guitars as color, and the often polyphonic vocals with fantasy themes as the “icing on the cake.”
